Let’s face it. In a world filled with cell phones, all nighters, and alllll the sugar you can eat, we could all use a little more health in 2019. But with so many fad diets and fitness challenges out there, it can be super hard to make the best decisions for our health. Should I go gluten free? What about keto? How many hours of sleep should I be getting? What about exercise? Every blogger, wellness coach, and random person on the internet, will give you a different answer. But the honest answer is– ready for this?– there isn’t always one RIGHT answer! Everyone is different and sometimes the best thing you can do for your health is to educate yourself and make your own decisions.
How do you do that? By reading health books, of course! Which health books? I’m glad you asked! This list of the best health and wellness books for 2019 is a great place to start! I’ve deliberately limited this list to 5 health books because I wanted to make sure I was only choosing the best ones. I’ve chosen some of the best health books ever written (in my humble opinion) with great advice on nutrition, healthy eating, fitness, and more!
Will these 5 health books be ideal for everyone? Of course not! As I said before, everyone is different. But these 5 health books do cover a wide range of perspectives, so you can make more educated decisions about your health and wellness in 2019. Each author brings his or her personal viewpoint– you decide what works best for you! Some of these health books are best sellers and others are hidden gems. Either way, I hope you find a health and wellness book that speaks to you.
Ready for the best health books to read in 2019? Let’s go!
P.S. Remember to always consult your doctor if you have any health concerns or before starting a new diet, fitness, or health program of any kind.

This is one of the best health books out there for anyone who’s confused about exactly what “healthy eating” means. There are so many conflicting messages out there– I feel like we’ve all been confused at one point or another. 2. Best Book on Health and Nutrition
Clean Gut By: Alejandro Junger
Clean Gut is an eye-opening health book that ties the root cause of many common health ailments back to the gut. I first discovered Clean Gut when I was recovering from chronic pain and illness. While I won’t say that it “cured me”, it did play a large role in my recovery by highlighting some important diet and lifestyle changes I needed to make. In this health book, Dr. Alejandro Junger explains the role and importance of the gut plus presents a 3 week program for healing it. If you have any interest at all in “leaky gut” and how it may contribute to various diseases, this is a great health book to read!
3. Best Book on Health and Fitness
Fit in 3: The Scandi Plan by: Faya Nilsson
If you’re looking for the best book on health and fitness in 2019, you’ve found it! I’ve been a huge fan of Faya Nilsson since I discovered her popular blog, Fitness on Toast. Faya is a half-Swedish, half-English personal trainer who advocates for a balanced approach to health and fitness. Her health book, Fit in 3, guides you through three elements of a healthy life: food, fitness, and mindfulness. It includes a three-week menu plan, step-by-step workouts you can do at home, and relaxing mindfulness exercises. If you’re looking for an easy health and fitness plan for 2019, look no further than Fit in 3!
4. Best Wellness Book of All Time
How to Heal Yourself When No One Else Can By: Amy B. Scher
So I’ll admit this book could be considered a little “woo woo”. It’s definitely more of a wellness book than a health book. But if you’re willing to look a little deeper, there’s some great information in here. Amy has a warm personality and an inspiring story that really shines through in her book. This is an energy medicine book that has some really interesting techniques for handling stress, anxiety, pain, and other everyday ailments. This includes EFT tapping, grounding, chanting, and other mind-body approaches.
Does this stuff actually work? While there’s not a ton of scienfitic evidence for the effectiveness of energy medicine, many people find it helpful for both physical and emotional ailments. Reiki, acupuncture, and qi gong are all based on a similar understanding of the energy system as the techniques presented in this book. While this book may not be for everyone, it could be a great fit for those who want an empowering new way to take charge of their well-being.
5. Best Health Book Ever Written
Change Your Brain, Change Your Life by: Dr. Daniel G. Amen
Okay, so best health book ever written is a pretty big claim. But seriously, this is an excellent book about the brain that I personally think nearly everyone could benefit from. Dr. Daniel G. Amen is a celebrated neuroscientist who has written many health book bestsellers, including this one. This fascinating health book teaches you all about the brain and the many ways it affects your health and happiness. You’ll learn effective ways to treat and prevent common brain-related issues, such as depression, memory loss, chronic pain, and more!
One thing I particularly like about this health book is that Dr. Amen presents various approaches for dealing with the same issue recommending different medications, supplements, nutritional approaches, exercises, and more. By giving you choices, he empowers you to make the decisions about your health that work best for you. His book also includes lots of inspiring patient stories, case studies, and lovely images of the brain (if you’re into that– who isn’t? 😉)
So that’s it! My 5 picks for best health books in 2019. As you can see, I tried to present a variety of viewpoints to empower you to choose what works best for you. Hopefully one (or more) of these wellness books will help you take charge of your health and make 2019 your best year yet!
