Note: This post was originally published on my food blog, A Bite of Inspiration (read more about it in this post here.)  It’s been slightly edited and modified to make the content even more inspiring and the recipe even more delicious! Enjoy!

If you’ve visited my blog before, you may know that before Flaxseeds & Fairytales was born I had a food blog called A Bite of Inspiration.  Every once in a while, I like to go through the recipes on my old blog and rediscover some of the best ones.  If it seems like a good fit, I re-publish the recipe on F&F.  Oh. My. Gosh.  How have I not put this Healthy Vegan Fruit Dip on here before?  This recipe for dairy free fruit dip is SO incredibly good and simple to make.  I can’t believe I forgot all about it!  But the best part of rediscovering this delightful plant based fruit dip recipe was remembeing that it was inspired by Guy’s Grocery Games, a show I used to watch on the Food Network all the time.  Talk about a walk down memory lane.

Heart healthy and plant based fruit dip with apples, pears, grapes, and graham crackers

If you’ve never seen the show, each episode features four chefs competing in various cooking games/challenges within a gigantic grocery store.  The show has three rounds.  In each round, the contestants have to shop for their ingredients and cook a dish, but the catch is that each round features a different challenge.  The winner walks home with up to $20,000.

This show is a blast to watch because: 1) The grocery store the show takes place in is called “Flavortown Market”.  I mean, come on.  The ridiculous name alone is a reason to watch.  2) How can you not be entertained by four grown adults running around so-called “Flavortown Market” like crazy people, pushing giant shopping carts?  Sometimes they even run head first into each other.  This is quality entertainment, people.  3) Despite the first two extremely compelling reasons to watch, the most fun thing about the show is the different cooking challenges that Guy presents the contestants with.  Some examples include: Odd or Even (chefs can only shop for their dish ingredients in either the odd or even numbered aisles), Watch your Weight (chefs are constrained in their ingredient choice by a certain weight limit), and Budget Battle (chefs have a certain budget constraint in shopping for their dish ingredients).  You get the idea.

One of my favorite games played on the show is “ABC”.   In this game, Guy picks a letter at random out of a bag and chefs can only use ingredients that start with that letter in their dish.  I decided that I wanted to play too, so I had my friend pick a letter at random for me and then give me a category.  She chose the letter “C” and told me to make a snack that only contains ingredients starting with that letter.  Challenge accepted!

This healthy vegan fruit dip is a great low calorie dipping sauce for apples

And that’s how this Healthy Vegan Fruit Dip recipe started.  The “C” ingredients I chose were:

Coconut milk yogurt

Coconut whip

Cinnamon

Chocolate

I used these ingredients to create to a creamy, dreamy vegan fruit dip that is completely gluten free and dairy free!  It was pretty creative, if I do say so myself! 😉  This healthy chocolate fruit dip uses vegan yogurt as a base with chocolate shavings to create a lighter, low calorie fruit dip.  By using chocolate shavings, you get the flavor and richness of chocolate without all the calories along with the tanginess of yogurt.  This is a vegan fruit dip without cream cheese that won’t weigh you down.  The coconut whip gives you the texture of marshmallow fluff, but is a much healthier substitute.  It has no addded sugar and very little fat (only 3 grams per serving).  Plus it has just 55 calories per serving!  Heart healthy fruit dip made with dairy free ingredients?  Yes please!

4 ingredient healthy vegan fruit dip is gluten free and dairy free. Made with chocolate shavings and served with fruit.

This easy 4 ingredient Healthy Vegan Fruit Dip is a dream come true!  It’s so light and delicious– plus it pairs well with almost anything.  You can serve it with fruit, marshmallows, graham crackers, chunks of pound cake, or anything else sweet!  My personal favorites for this Healthy Vegan Fruit Dip are apples and strawberries.  YUM!  Serve it on a pretty dip tray (you can get the same one I used in my pictures here) and you have a simple party snack, appetizer, or dessert for any occassion.  Thank you Guy’s Grocery Games for the amazing inspiration!  I should play the ABC game more often. See?  You CAN challenge yourself by sitting on the couch watching TV. 😉

Enjoy this Healthy Vegan Fruit Dip anytime for an easy low calorie, heart healthy, gluten free, and plant based snack!  With only 4 ingredients, this simple vegan fruit dip recipe will be your new go-to.

Recipe Notes

I used a microplane and grated a vegan chocolate bar to make the chocolate shavings for this recipe.  You can also buy them at most grocery stores or on Amazon here (but the one on Amazon isn't vegan or dairy free).

Most health food stores sell coconut whip in the dairy aisle.  I used So Delicious dairy free coconut whipped topping.  If you can't find it at the store, you can also buy this one here on Amazon but you have to whip it yourself.

If you're not vegan or dairy free, you can also use low fat greek yogurt for this dip.
