Can meditation heal the body?
Recent studies have shown that regular meditation can enhance healing. According to WebMD, meditation has been shown to increase immune function, decrease pain, improve heart health, lower blood pressure, and so much more!
While meditation should not be a substitute for medical advice from a qualified health practitioner, it can speed up healing by relaxing the mind and body. When the brain is stuck in “fight or flight” or stress mode, it’s much harder for the body to heal because all of its resources are diverted toward the perceived threat. The muscles tighten, the heart rate and blood pressure rise, and the body loses its natural sense of balance.
Meditation relaxes the mind and body, which turns off this stress response. When this happens, the body can begin to heal naturally.
It’s also very helpful to the healing process to get a good night’s sleep. The body repairs itself when it’s at rest. If you struggle with sleep, I recommend the Guided Meditation for Deep Sleep, which will help you fall asleep in just 10 minutes.
