Hi, my name is Alyssa! Welcome to Flaxseeds & Fairytales (F&F). I’m so happy you’re here! I want to help you find your very own happily ever after through a balanced approach to health and wellness. Together, we’ll make all your health and happiness dreams come true!
From my perspective, everything worthwhile in life starts with seeds. The name, Flaxseeds & Fairytales, comes from the idea that small, consistent efforts toward better health can result in huge, positive changes. Like, in the classic story, “Jack and the Beanstalk”. Jack’s mother throws the magic beans out the window and a beanstalk begins to grow. These tiny magic beans (or “seeds”) would eventually lead to wealth and riches for her and her son.
Every time you make a small step toward better health, you’re planting a seed. Whether it’s cooking a new healthy recipe, trying indoor cycling for the first time, or attending your first meditation retreat, these “baby” steps are slowly but surely leading you toward increased health and vitality. There is no magic wand that will give you the optimal health and happiness you desire. There are only seeds.
Essentially, the name, Flaxseeds & Fairytales, is a more creative interpretation of health (the “flaxseeds”) and happiness (the “fairytales”). Together, these two things combine to give you a more balanced and fulfilling life. A healthy body and a happy mind go hand in hand, and my goal is to help you achieve both.
F&F is a celebration of everyone’s unique fairytale. I strive to provide a variety of honest information and advice that anyone can benefit from, regardless of individual health goals, fitness levels, and backgrounds. I believe that anyone can achieve optimal health with the right guide and the freedom to choose what works for them. Remember those “pick-your-own” fairytale books from when we were kids? The book gave you a few choices on where to take your story, but you got to pick your own path. This is the approach I encourage my readers to take with this blog.
I will provide you with as much quality information as I can about a variety of health and wellness subjects, but you get to pick what’s right for you! I take the time to gain first-hand experience and do extensive research for all my posts, so you can get the best information possible. I explore everything health-related from relaxing books to read before bed to a healthy bubble tea recipe to how to workout at home. I have posts about the AIP diet, keto, gluten free, and more! Unlike blogs that focus on just one particular diet or aspect of health, I explore a bit of everything so that you have the freedom to make the choices that works best for you. This blog has something for everyone!
While I encourage you to keep an open mind and try different things, at the end of the day, only you can write your healthy, happily ever after. In a day and age where there are so many ads, articles, and books trying to convince you that there’s only one approach to optimal health (their approach), I want to help you pick your own path. Just keep in mind that choosing a balanced approach and making consistent, small changes are both important aspects of finding optimal health. The rest is up to you!
In a way, this blog is like your fairy godmother. It provides you with the sparkling glass slippers and majestic pumpkin carriage, but going to the ball and charming the prince is all you. I believe that health and happiness are not a one-size-fits all. We’re all on a magical journey each day to find what works best. Every person’s path is slightly different. Be the hero of your own fairytale and find your personal healthy, happy ending.
Just remember that happily ever after starts with seeds. Finding true health and happiness is not just about the destination—it’s about the journey. Each post on this blog is a seed that you can use to create your own magical trail through the enchanted forest toward the sparkling castle. While the castle may be the goal, the enchanted forest is just as exciting and wondrous. Food– This section is where I share my delicious, healthy recipes, as well as tips for making healthy choices while eating out. I am allergic to gluten, so all of my recipes are gluten-free. From main dishes to soups to smoothies, I want to show you that healthy eating can be both enjoyable and satisfying. It all starts with the right recipes! I am committed to creating and sharing recipes that all my readers will enjoy, regardless of whether they follow a special diet or not. Learn all my tips and tricks for comfortably eating out on healthy or special diets without ever feeling deprived in my Eating Out section. This section has everything you need to enjoy eating out no matter what your health goals are.
Fitness– As a certified group fitness instructor, my goal is to help all different types of people add more movement to their lives in a way that is fun and motivating for them. I realize that not everyone loves working out, so I provide practical advice for how to incorporate a little more exercise into your daily life no matter what your fitness level. Whether you’re a novice exerciser or a fitness enthusiast, I promise you’ll find a post here that speaks to you. In this section, I explore all different types of exercise and the tips for getting the most out of your workout!
Meditation– Mindfulness meditation is a secular practice that teaches staying in the present moment to help ease stress, anxiety, and pain. I am passionate about meditation and have taken classes, read tons of books, and practiced daily for many years. Whether you’re just curious about meditation or you’ve been doing it for while, I offer practical ways to get started in or to enhance your practice.
In the Guided Meditations section, you’ll find tons of guided meditations for a variety of purposes. There’s meditations to help you with stress, pain, anxiety, sleep and more. There’s even a walking meditation if you’re looking for something different. Many of the guided meditations are my own original recordings, while others are a compilation of my favorites from YouTube. Either way, you’re sure to find a guided meditation in this section that speaks to you.
Meditation Tips & Advice will teach you everything you need to know about meditation. From the best meditation quotes to the best ways to meditate lying down, you’ll learn all the tips you need to enhance your practice.
Travel– Travel is a chance to expand your wellness in a new location. I find experiencing new places to be an exciting part of a healthy lifestyle! Many people think they will fall off the wagon in terms of healthy diet and exercise while on vacation, but I’m here to show you how a vacation can actually enhance your well-being. This section has everything from informative travel guides to stunning travel photos.
Wellness– While every category on this blog explores a key part of health and wellness, this section looks at topics that aren’t covered in the other categories. This section has posts on everything from getting a better night’s sleep to my favorite natural beauty products to the most inspiring health books. If it involves health and it doesn’t fit into any of the other categories on this site, you’ll find it here!
Blogging– F&F is all about helping you find your happily ever after, whatever it may be! For me, a huge part of my happily ever after comes from having my own blog. I get to earn an income and build a brand, while having the flexibility to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prioritize my own well-being.
