I’m so excited, you guys!! I’m going to New York City for the long weekend! I love NYC and visit as often as I can. I love the food, the atmosphere, the shopping—everything! But, most of all, I love love LOVE Broadway shows! I’ve been watching Broadway shows since I was a little kid and nothing pumps me up like a good musical!
So, I’ll admit it. I’m a self-proclaimed Broadway musical nerd. I even keep my souvenir programs, playbills, and tickets all together in a giant “Broadway box”. Yup—it’s an obsession. But the funny thing is with all my Broadway musical mania, it never occurred to me to create a Broadway workout playlist until super recently.
It was a happy accident. I was working out on the treadmill and feeling a lapse in my energy, so I decided to turn on Hamilton and all of a sudden, I was PUMPED UP! It was one of the best workouts of my life! I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of a Broadway workout playlist before. As soon as I got off the treadmill (and wiped off my sweat, of course!) I jumped on Spotify and created an EPIC Broadway workout songs playlist. And now, I’m sharing it with all of you because the world could use a little more Broadway, don’t you think?
So in celebration of my upcoming NYC trip (I have tickets to see Mean Girls and The Band’s Visit—sooooo excited!!), here’s my list of best Broadway workout songs for your next cardio or strength training session! This playlist includes a warm up and cool down, as well as an awesome mix of classic show tunes and more recent Broadway songs. This Broadway workout playlist is 45 minutes long, but you can cut or add songs based on your personal needs. It’s the only musical theatre workout playlist you’ll EVER NEED for your Broadway workout routine!
Broadway Workout Songs Playlist
Warm Up (9 minutes)
As an ACE Certified group fitness instructor, I recommend that you ALWAYS warm up for at least 5-10 minutes at the start of any workout. These two songs will help you set the pace for your warm up, so you can begin to increase the intensity.
- You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen
For a warm up, I like to choose a song that starts off slow and then builds intensity. This is the best way to get yourself pumped up for the workout ahead. You Will Be Found is the perfect way to start this Broadway workout playlist because it starts slow and easy with only Evan singing. Then, as the rest of the characters join in the music begins to swell and speed up with percussion added to the background.
- Luck Be a Lady from Guys and Dolls
This classic show tune will set the pace as you begin to move into the fat-burning zone of your workout. Similar to You Will Be Found, it starts out slower and then builds intensity.
Conditioning (29 minutes)
This is the main part of your workout—that fat burning, sweat drenching part. I’ve chosen Broadway workout songs here that are high energy, upbeat, and motivating. This part of the Broadway workout playlist is designed to keep your energy level high, while steadily increasing your intensity so you get a great calorie burn!
- Bend and Snap from Legally Blonde
This is a great Broadway workout song for the beginning of the conditioning phase. It’s upbeat with a nice steady rhythm that will get your heart rate going!
- One Day More from Les Miserables
One of Broadway’s most epic songs that will pump you up as you start to break a sweat. Keep going!
- Chop to the Top from SpongeBob SquarePants: The Musical
Don’t laugh, but I find this song from SpongeBob super inspiring. At this point in the workout, you should be ready to reach peak intensity and this song will keep you going! As Sandy sings “I’ve been thinkin’ how to get to the top of the mountain, It’s gonna take a whole lot of determination. You gotta chop to the top if you want it”, you’ll be climbing your own mountain and swiftly reaching the top!
- My Shot from Hamilton
This is the peak of the workout and the time when we often feel like slowing down or quitting. That’s why I picked a SUPER motivating song for this part of the Broadway workout playlist. This song keeps me going when I feel quitting and has an awesome beat that actually makes me increase my speed and intensity.
- Facade from Jekyll and Hyde
I love doing cardio to this song because it has a fast beat! It’s a great way to keep going at the top of your workout. Note: Make sure you choose the full version of this song and not one of the reprises!
- Defying Gravity from Wicked
This is always a motivating one. At this point, you’ve finished the peak of your workout and you’re starting to come down just a bit in intensity. This song will help you keep your pace with a fast beat and inspiring lyrics.
- The Phantom of the Opera from The Phantom of the Opera
Start slowing down a little more, while still keeping the energy high with this epic show tune. While this song is a bit slower, it’s still high energy with the strong base in the background.
Cool Down (7 minutes)
Congrats! You’re almost done with your workout. Let’s finish it strong with two more musical theatre hits!
- I See Stars from Mean Girls
This is an awesome song for starting your cool down. It’s upbeat with super inspiring lyrics, but it’s not too fast. At this point in the Broadway workout playlist, you can start to relax a bit and let your heart rate come down.
- Somewhere Over the Rainbow from The Wizard of OZ
End your workout with this classic, whimsical show tune. This song will help you finish on a high and hopeful note that will carry you to your next workout (it’s just over the rainbow!)
I hope you enjoyed this Broadway workout playlist! Whether you’re using this as a running playlist, a fat-burning cardio playlist, or something else, these musical theatre songs will help you get your best workout yet! I hope this playlist inspires you to create your very own Broadway workout routine. Get pumped and burn those calories with the best Broadway workout songs out there.
