After seeing the popularity of my Eating Out on the AIP Diet post, I realized how important it is to help those on the Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) Diet find practical ways to fit the dietary restrictions into their day-to-day lives.
During the period of time that I followed the AIP Diet in an attempt to treat my own chronic pain and illness, I had a really difficult time because I felt like my whole life centered around following the diet. I couldn’t go out for more than a few hours at a time because I needed to be home to cook my meals. I knew that there had to be a better way, so I began experimenting. I spent some time researching and trying out different ways to make the diet fit with my lifestyle, while never straying from the restrictions. Eventually, I found some amazing AIP snacks that were both healthy AND easy to eat on-the-go. This changed everything for me because it meant that I could leave the house, socialize, and even travel without worrying about going hungry. I also learned how to eat out on AIP (read that post here) so I could participate in my life, while still treating my illness.
While those following AIP should focus on home-cooked, nutrient dense food as much as possible, eating healthy and filling snacks in moderation can help prevent feelings of deprivation. And these snacks are absolutely delicious! Even though I’m no longer on AIP, I still eat all of these snacks on a regular basis. Yum! 🙂

Eating Out on the AIP Diet
1. Paleo Angel Power Balls
OH MY. In the restrictive world of AIP, Paleo Angel Power Balls are truly descended from the heavens. They are the closest thing you can get to dessert on AIP. Made with coconut, collagen protein, and raw honey, these healthy and delicious snacks boast 4 grams of protein per serving. Each power ball is relatively large and super filling. I would eat just one and be full for hours. And did I mention that they are DELICIOUS? They have great flavor and a soft, crumbly texture that’s reminiscent of a cookie.
I recommend the Snickerdoodle 4-Pack or the AIP Variety 4-Pack (the orange cranberry one literally tastes like a muffin!) Keep in mind that honey should be eaten in moderation on AIP, so don’t go too crazy with these (you’ll be tempted!)

2. Wild Zora Bars
I’m obsessed with Wild Zora Bars. Like obsessed. Even to this day, I carry at least two of them in my purse at all times. They are the healthiest and best tasting paleo meat jerky bars on the market. Seriously. Eat one of these when hunger strikes and go about your day like a pro! Each pack has 6-7 grams of protein (depending on which meat you choose) and a full serving of organic fruits and vegetables. What more could you want from a snack? In a bind, I’ve even made a meal out of 3 packs of Wild Zora bars and two sticks of collagen peptides mixed in water (see #4 below). It wasn’t the best meal in the world, but there was plenty of protein and enough fiber to keep me full.
These bars have great flavor and a nice, soft texture. They’re not tough and chewy like a lot of other meat bars. I had really severe TMJ when I first discovered these and I could chew through them with no issues.
Please note that only the Apple Pork (my personal favorite) and Mediterranean Lamb are AIP—the other flavors contain nightshades.

3. Artisan Tropic Cassava Strips
Okay, so we all know that chips aren’t the healthiest snack in the world. But, sometimes when the munchies strike only a salty, crispy chip will satisfy. When you get that feeling on AIP, Artisan Tropic Cassava Strips are your saving grace. Cassava is much more nutrient-dense than potatoes making them the perfect paleo treat! Artisan Tropic’s Cassava Strips are cooked in sustainable palm oil and they’re paleo certified. I actually prefer them to regular potato chips!
These chips are super crunchy with just the right amount of salt—everything you want in a chip! While you shouldn’t go overboard with chips on AIP, it’s nice to know that Artisan Tropic Cassava Strips are available on those really hard days when you need a snack that hits the spot!

4. Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides (Stick Packs)
I drink at least 2 scoops of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides every single day. Yup—every single day. I put them in my smoothies, warm spiced coconut milk, or in just plain water. These are the best collagen peptides I’ve ever had. If you’ve tried other brands of collagen before and they left a bad taste in your mouth (pun intended), try Vital Proteins. Their collagen dissolves easily and is completely tasteless even in water!
While I have a regular 10-ounce container of Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides at home, I always go for the stick packs when I’m on the go. They’re super convenient, easy-to-open packs that contain one serving of peptides each. If you’re hungry and have no time for a real snack, dissolve two stick packs in your water bottle and voila! You’re full and ready to go! This is one of the best and simplest AIP snacks!

5. Organic Sliced Tiger Nuts
One of the snacks that I missed most on AIP was nuts. I love the texture and flavor of a crunchy almond. When I discovered tiger nuts, I was so excited! Despite the name, tiger nuts are not actually nuts. They are small root vegetables full of pre-biotic fiber. They’re considered a superfood and it’s rumored that they comprised 80% of our pre-human ancestors’ diet. One serving has 40% of your daily fiber requirements—that’s HUGE! If you haven’t tried tiger nuts yet, you definitely want to jump on this train. My prediction is that they’ll be super trendy in a few years. They even have AIP flour made from tiger nuts!
But, what do they taste like? DELICIOUS! They’re honestly so good. The best way for me to describe them is that they kind of taste like a chewy almond, but slightly sweeter. I love putting them on coconut yogurt with a little honey or just eating them right out of the bag. You do you! Try them and let me know what you think (in the comments below!)

6. Coconut Jerky- Ginger Teriyaki
Fun fact: Not all jerky is made from meat. Enter coconut jerky, the delicious vegan AND paleo interpretation of jerky. The Ginger Teriyaki flavor is AIP and absolutely delicious. It’s like eating Japanese food right out of the bag. If you miss the teriyaki stir fry at your favorite Asian restaurant, this amazing jerky is sure to quench your craving.
The soft, flavorful pieces of coconut are addicting! You’ll want to buy several bags. Trust me. 😉

I’ve heard a lot of good things about vital proteins.
Alyssa
They’re amazing! You should definitely give them a try.
Heidi
Just wanted to post a note regarding the power balls, Carob is allowed on AIP, chocolate is not; they are two different creatures. The Angel powerballs are all compliant, even the variety pack.
Heidi
*My apologies! I meant to say the AIP variety pack is compliant .
Alyssa
Hi Heidi! You’re totally right– thanks for pointing that out to me. Carob is AIP elimination phase compliant, but some choose to avoid it because it’s high-FODMAP (that’s what I had meant to write!) I’ll make the change in the post so people aren’t confused. Thank you again for your help! 🙂
Alison
This list has been super helpful to me! I’m traveling next week and was stressing about what AIP snacks I could bring. Your post saved me! Thank you!
Alyssa
Thank you Alison! I’m so glad this post was helpful to you. Safe travels.
Lorie
I will definitely be trying these foods!
Alyssa
Thank you Lorie! All these snacks are delicious. I’m sure you’ll find one (or many) that you’ll enjoy. Be sure to let me know what your favorite one is after you’ve tried them. 🙂 Thanks again for stopping by!

FYI the COCONUT JERKY- GINGER TERIYAKI link sends you to a discontinued product.
Alyssa
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Dave! I’ll try to look for a replacement snack soon. 🙂
